A tracheostomy tube is typically placed into the stoma to allow for direct access to the trachea for breathing and removing secretions from the airway and lungs. WebUncuffed trachs are not used for this purpose, they just keep the stoma open so you can suction the patient down it or the patient can have it as a backup path for breathing long term (or until it gets downsized then they get decanullated).
